What is your style of photography?

I'm predominately journalistic in my approach so I like to step back and let you be you. The creative moments come from understanding what you want and some very subtle direction of talent on the day.

How much time should we allow for photos?

This depends on the location, required travel time and how many configurations you have for the formal family photos. We comprehensively cover this in our planning session. Everyone's going to be very excited to greet you after the ceremony, so schedule a good 20 minutes prior to the family photos to allow for all the hugs and air kisses. And remember: family photos always take longer than you think they will.

Why is the time of day so important for portrait photos?

I fully recommend scheduling your day so we aren't shooting your portraits in the middle of the day. Light can often be quite harsh and flat during this time so it’s always better if your photos can be taken when the sun is lower, either mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Sunset lighting can be rather magical too so we can plan around photographing you during this atmospheric time of the day.

Should we have an ‘unplugged’ wedding?

Entirely up to you. Sometimes it's nice to have your family just enjoy the day and be present in the moment with you. If you do allow devices during the ceremony, a gentle reminder by the MC to use cameras discretely from their seats can help me navigate my way around to capture the very best moments.

What if my dress gets dirty?

Dirt is temporary but great shots last forever.

Your beautiful dress may get a little dirty, I’ve seen very few dresses make it through without a few tiny marks. There are fantastic cleaners out there ready to help you post wedding and I will do everything possible to keep you clean.

Alternatively, some brides embrace the ‘trash the dress’ movement and if that's you, I'd love to be there to capture it.

What shoes should I wear on the photo shoot?

The absolutely stunning heels you picked out will look incredible in the photos but probably aren't going to be that friendly to your feet on location. So, a comfortable pair of slip-ons to wear on our photo adventure is a very practical idea.

What if it rains?

If you’re taking photographs in New Zealand there’s a good chance it might rain. If you’re having an outdoor wedding you've no doubt already thought of this likelihood and have a back-up plan. But what about your photos? Rain actually doesn’t change the photography that much, we can still go out and make it work. I keep a few clear umbrellas on hand and if it’s really bad I might suggest a location change to somewhere a little more sheltered that I've scouted earlier.

Do you work with other photographers?

My packages are can be customized to include an additional photographer.  These are all photographers with wedding experience and whose body of work I am familiar with. It's great to have a second set of eyes in the places I can't be, and allows a thorough documentation of both the bride and groom pre-wedding.

What about videographers?

I offer highlight films as an add on to your photo packages - or in some cases as a solo service. If however you decide to get a different videographer, I will happily accommodate them so they can also capture your day.  I can even provide recommendations. When we sit down for the planning session we can look at the best way to facilitate your videography requirements.
